The good life

June 19th, 2006

Due to popular demand, here is a much needed update. People have been approaching me, telling me they’ve read my blog and they’re really sorry I’m so sad. Well, that’s all great and all, but last thing I want is to have a big crowd feeling bad for me.

So to end the madness, I just want to let everyone know that I’m actually having quite a lot of fun here in Silicon Valley!

The good job

I really enjoy working for Yahoo!. I’m not even talking about the free coffee or the countless hours of foosball. I’m talking about the projects I work on and I’m talking about the people I work with. Being a finance major, this is a learning opportunity for me, so I’m trying to get the most out of it and I guess not so surprisingly, I’m really enjoying being a web developer. It’s been a hobby of mine for as long as I can remember, being able to do it professionally is great! The people that surround me at Yahoo! are amazing as well and make me actually want to come to work, something I really haven’t felt at past jobs.

The good fun

After a few weeks of being here, I finally got adjusted and started to really enjoy my time. I’m trying to make the best out of my stay here. I’m trying to think as positive as possible and lately it’s really been helping out. My friends are home are really supportive and so is my girlfriend. It’s great to be in love and it’s also great to have some of the best friends in the world, so while I’m enjoying life here in Sunnyvale, Ca., I really want to get back for some real fun.

So far, I’ve been to San Francisco a few times, San Jose and Santa Cruz and many visits to Mountain View and Sunnyvale downtowns for some good food. I’ve checked out Apple’s corporate store in Cupertino and I’ve eated authentic Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese and Chinese foods. Oh yeah, Italian too. Cooking has been great when I’m not lazy and surprisingly I find myself enjoying it too much to settle for frozen dinners. I eat cereal in the mornings and have milk and cookies before bed. I watch the World Cup when I can and hang out with Scott most weekends. Life’s good.

The wonderful girlfriend

Mandy was here last weekend making that her second trip to California to visit me. I don’t know how I will ever thank her, but I cooked her breakfast and dinner every day she was here, so how can she complain? I owe her a lot and one day I’ll make it up to her. We checked out Museum of Art in San Jose, saw The Break-up, which was very very good (screw the critics!), took a nice long walk around the neighborhood and generally enjoyed what little time we had together. That was by far my most enjoyable weekend here.

The exciting future

In 12 days I will be making my way to San Jose Int’l Airport where I will begin my overnight journey home for a whole week! I was able to get some days off, so that plus Independance Day gave me a whole week to spend with my family, friends and Mandy. It’s going to be an unbelievably fun time and I simply can’t wait to get on that plane.

After I get back I will only have one free weekend during which I will probably try to sell most of my furniture because my days in California will be numbered. Weekend after that one I go to Seattle to meet up with a big mob of designers for some dangerous fun. More on that later!

Weekend after that I come home.

I’m glad you’re livin it up in Cali. Make the most of your time there. Enjoy it because we’ll still be here when you get back but you only have so much time out of the city… once you leave there you’re gonna miss it.

sun isn’t nearly as common in Pittsburgh as it is in sili-valley.

Oh man, I’m so happy to find someone who also thought The Break Up was a good movie. I went and saw it in NZ with some mates about a month ago; they all hated it!

    Enjoy yourself, dude!
