Opened a trading account

October 13th, 2006

About time right?

I’ve always been interested in stocks, but I’ve either never had enough money to open a trading account or was simply scared to invest money into something I knew nothing about.

Well, I’m now 21 and almost done with a finance major, so it’s only right that I start investing. At this age, there’s a lot of room for error. Just like with anything else, we learn from our mistakes and with money, it’s better to do it when we’re young and still have our whole lives to recover whatever amount of money we may lose in our adolescent years of investing.

I’ve eying Scottrade as my online broker for over a year now, so they were the ones I eventually chose. Why? Well, they have $7 trades, a branch 5 minute drive from my house, no inactivity fee (great for me) and most importantly, only $500 to get started.

I’m stoked and can’t wait to get started! I’ll definitely post some good ways of analyzing public companies and finding sound investments as I go on and as I learn more this semester, so if you’re into that sort of thing, stick around!

That’s fantastic. I want to (and need to) get into investing - the whole age restriction blows though.

And I wish Scottrade had some nice OSX interface. Scottrade Elite is great and has good features but is only for Windows and looks quite gross :(
