Complexion - AdiumX Message Style. Get it

January 23rd, 2007

I’m really excited to present to you my very first (and probably very last) message style for Adium.

- First, get it here: http://www.adiumxtras.com/index.php?a=xtras&xtra_id=3674

- Second, vote on it, please.

- Third, read more about it below:

Ever since I converted to the aesthetic goon that is known as a Mac and discovered Trillian-on-drugs application called Adium, I’ve found it pretty hard to come by a message style that was both flattering and at the same time, very usable.

Finally, I got some free time and decided to make my own, from ground up. One morning, I started it and in the evening of the same day, it was online and ready for the world to enjoy. Now a full week and four major updates later, Complexion is living strong and enjoys serving your needs every day… honestly.

The coolest part about Complexion is that it employs the great Yahoo! UI Library (YUI) to deliver you incoming messages in a previously unseen, smooth and animating fashion. Because this hasn’t been done before, this was undoubtedly the most challenging and in the end, the most rewarding aspect of creating this Message Style. With over 30 color variations, I’m sure Complexion has a color setup for your viewing pleasure, so I hope you like it. No, I hope you love it.

Make sure to let me know what you think about it!

Congratulations on the success of your Adium plug-in. Admittedly, I’m always impressed with the work that you turn out. It seems like every one is an instant success. I can recall off of the top of my head “I

Great Message Style! By far the best I’ve seen. I really look forward to seeing more of your work :) I only wish you could disable to sliding animation as I find it a little distracting at the moment. Who knows, maybe I’ll get used to it and prefer it to anything else ;)

[…] By the way, another random update. Complexion (my Adium message style), has been ported to Kopete (Linux chat client). It mostly looks fine, except the oversized smilies and some padding issues (different rendering engine?). I’m happy with the success of this skin. Thanks to all who voted! More reading » […]

Dmitry — Cool stuff! This is Eric from the YUI team. Would love to talk to you about your experiences using YUI for this … are you in the bay area? Email me offline if you’d like to get together and talk about profiling your work on YUIBlog. -Eric

I just installed Adium finally now that it has reached the 1.0 status and have to say this theme is my favorite yet. Great job!

I have to say though that I disabled the javascript affects because they seemed a bit too slow for my taste, but the theme is wonderful nonetheless. Maybe in the future you can take this theme and do a small bit of cleaning up to make it a little more compact and streamlined. This theme would be perfect if the paddings and margins were shortened a little.

I’m the maker of the kopete style, Maybe it is too late for this reply but i don’t use kopete and just saw your blog post yesterday. Sorry for padding issues, i didn’t worked a lot on the port. Smilies are changeable by the way. kudos :)
