Server switch notice and other updates

January 31st, 2007

I haven’t been really happy with my current host and will soon require much more resources than my plan currently offers for something I’m working on (hopefully at least).

After some searching, I settled with MediaTemple’s Grid-Server plan. I love the idea, but in the last few weeks of testing out the new (mt) account, I haven’t been satisfied at all. Nevertheless, I trust the company and their product and they will eventually get it right. I like how they keep the customers informed through their blog and the recent update on the upcoming MySQL revamp helped make my decision to stay. After all, other things have been performing fairly well. It’s the MySQL servers that are problematic on their grid infrastructure.

Lately, it’s been a huge pain in the ass to upload files when on the school network. Download/upload speeds here are insane, but for some reason when using FTP (port 21) connection is always incredibly slow and very very intermittent.

So, I’m going home this weekend to enjoy the company of family and friends, play pool on the new table, sip on some beers and watch the SuperBowl. Somewhere in between all of this, I’ll try to transfer my site to (mt)’s hosting. Hang in there with me through this and let me know if something is out of whack!

By the way, another random update. Complexion (my Adium message style), has been ported to Kopete (Linux chat client). It mostly looks fine, except the oversized smilies and some padding issues (different rendering engine?). I’m happy with the success of this skin. Thanks to all who voted!
